However, please keep in mind that in this class we will strictly follow the NIU students’ attendance and safety guidelines. Please review them here.
Your education, health and safety are my number one priority. We are all members of the Huskies community, and we owe it to each other to protect ourselves and each other. Thus, I expect you to monitor your health and well-being. Throughout the duration the semester please follow the below in-class mask rules:
If you are fully healthy , it is your choice of wearing/not wearing the mask but please be respectful of the other class members that are wearing it; [If you are in this group, feel free to make your own choice]
If you have just a cold or sore throat, you should always wear the mask in class and try to distance yourself from other class members (if you forgot your mask, I will provide one for you); [If you are in this group, you should wear a mask]
If you experience more than one Covid-19 or other severe illness symptoms, please do not come to class and reach out to me in private; [If you are in this group, you should not come to class]
While I know some of you are tired of wearing masks and that other professors may elect to apply different rules in their teaching spaces, I hope that all of you will be understanding and respectful in following the above rules.
5.2 COLLABORATION & AI POLICY
All graded items must be completed individually. Collaboration is encouraged for learning but not for submitting graded items. You are allowed to use AI tools to assist your learning. However, ensure you fully understand the concepts and processes AI helps you with. AI tools are for learning enhancement, not for doing your work for you. AI tools are strictly prohibited in examinations and formally graded items. You should rely solely on your knowledge and understanding to complete them.
5.3 TECHNOLOGY REQUIREMENTS
You are highly encouraged to use R and RStudio (free installation) also on your computer. Having a computer that can’t connect to the Internet and/or run properly R and RStudio will not work as an excuse in this class. Please contact me in private immediately if you have any issues in meeting this requirement.
5.4 INCLUSIVE STATEMENT
Our classroom is a place where everyone is encouraged to share their perspectives and experiences. We respect and value diversity in all its forms, including race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, socioeconomic background, and more. This classroom is a safe place for you to learn and grow. I am committed to making course content and experiences accessible to all students and providing every student with a safe, respectful experience conducive to learning.

5.5 ACCESSIBILITY STATEMENT

DRC is located in the Campus Life Building, Suite 180, and can be reached at 815-753-1303 or drc@niu.edu. Also, please contact me privately as soon as possible so we can discuss your accommodations. Please note that you will not be required to disclose your disability, only your accommodations. The sooner you let me know your needs, the sooner I can assist you in achieving your learning goals in this course.
5.6 ACADEMIC INTEGRITY
Good academic work must be based on honesty. The attempt of any student to present as his or her own work that which he or she has not produced is regarded by the faculty and administration as a serious offense. Students are considered to have cheated if they copy the work of another during an examination or turn in a paper or an assignment written, in whole or in part, by someone else (including AI). Students are guilty of plagiarism, intentional or not, if they copy material from books, magazines, or other sources without identifying and acknowledging those sources or if they paraphrase ideas from such sources without acknowledging them. Students guilty of, or assisting others in, either cheating or plagiarism on an assignment, quiz, or examination may receive a grade of F for the course involved and may be suspended or dismissed from the university.
